Breaking News: FG Suspends Senior Prison Officials Over Bobrisky’s Bribery Allegations
The Federal Government has taken swift action against senior prison officials following allegations of bribery involving Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky. Secretary of the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board, Ja’afaru Ahmed, announced the suspension of the officers in a statement issued in Abuja.
Suspended Officials:
- Michael Anugwa, Deputy Controller of Corrections (DCC), in charge of Medium Security Custodial Centre (MSCC), Kirikiri, Lagos State
- Sikiru Adekunle, Deputy Controller of Corrections (DCC), in charge of Maximum-Security Custodial Centre (MSCC), Kirikiri, Lagos State
- Ogbule Samuel Obinna, ASC II stationed at the MSCC in Afikpo, Ebonyi State, for allegedly escorting a convicted inmate outside the facility
- Iloafonsi Kevin Ikechukwu, Deputy Controller of Corrections at the Kuje Medium Security Custodial Centre in Abuja, for reportedly receiving money on behalf of an inmate
The suspension is part of an ongoing investigation into the allegations, and the findings will be made public once the inquiry is completed. Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, initiated the probe on Wednesday, emphasizing the government’s zero-tolerance stance on corruption.
“This move demonstrates our commitment to rooting out corruption and ensuring justice is served,” Dr. Tunji-Ojo stated.
The allegations surfaced after a viral audio recording revealed Bobrisky’s claims of paying N15 million to unnamed officers and N10 million to arrange for a private apartment instead of serving his six-month prison sentence in a correctional facility.
