Adrienne Munju, a 41-year-old Canadian woman, has been apprehended by officials from the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos. Munju was caught attempting to smuggle 35.2 kilograms of “Canadian Loud,” a potent synthetic cannabis, into Nigeria.
Arrest and Investigation
Munju was arrested during the inward clearance of passengers on a KLM airline flight from Canada on October 3, 2024. Upon examining her three bags, NDLEA officials found 74 parcels of the illicit substance stuffed in two of them.
During interrogation, Munju claimed she was recruited online to traffic the drugs in exchange for 10,000 Canadian dollars upon successful delivery in Lagos. She stated that she needed the money to fund her ongoing master’s degree program in Canada.
